Brett Weiner :: Product Creative, Design & Merchandising
"Amazing products are the nucleus of meaningful
brand experiences."
Brett Weiner (why-ner) is a seasoned career creative with nearly two decades of experience building authentic product-centric lifestyle brands in the streetwear, action sports and outdoor industries. He adheres to the mantra that amazing products are the nucleus of a meaningful brand experience, building out from there to communicate with relevant audiences through engaging storytelling and progressive creative content. On any given day you can find Brett strategically mapping future paths, building thorough project briefs, leading creative design departments through a current season, designing from concept to spec., solving manufacturing issues directly with factories, or mentoring members of his teams to further develop their role specific insights and achieve their professional aspirations.
Brett leans on a deep and diverse background successfully owning roles in the disciplines of design and management at nearly all levels of seniority. He has extensive experience with in-house teams as well as agency environments contributing to best-in-class brands of all sizes like Burton Snowboards, Merrell Footwear, Patagonia Footwear, Nixon Watches, and Pepsi Co. Most recently Brett was the Director of Product for Corkcicle, a consumer products brand focused on creating necessities for a “cool modern lifestyle”, where he strategically built a lean, highly productive product department from the ground up. In addition, Brett is the founder of several independent businesses including Outpost Creative, his own consulting agency committed to providing Strategic Creative Intelligence© to a growing roster of clients seeking progressive trend and creative insight from the frontiers of global culture.
Through the course of his career Brett has had the amazing opportunities to lead several high-profile projects including international retail launches for Colette Paris, Barney’s New York, and Beams Japan, designed footwear for the Beastie Boys to wear on stage during their “Pageant Tour” 2004, collaborated with Mike D. and Clare V. on their MDCV accessory capsule, and designed/developed numerous bespoke watches for VIP’s and professional athletes including Superbowl Champion Drew Brees, and skateboard legend Tony Hawk.
Additionally, Brett designed more than 50 unique watches for the Grammy’s Musicares foundation where he contextualized donated items by musicians including Keith Richards, Tom Waits, Elton John, Dave Grohl, Ozzy Osbourne, Chris Cornell, Pete Townshend, Tom Petty, etc. into limited edition watches that were auctioned off with benefits going to professional musicians in need of rehabilitation and financial aid.
Also notable are Brett’s projects that have earned industry awards including making the 2020 list of Oprah’s Favorite Things for a vacuum insulated coffee mug, a 2018 Red Dot Design Award for the Corkcicle Eola Cooler backpack, and in 2006 his project was awarded Complex Magazines Best Accessory Launch for a set of record bags that he collaborated with DJ’s Steve Aoki, and Atrak on.
Brett is a deep strategic thinker and a staunch advocate for process, who loves taking the results of visionary ideation and synthesizing them into planned action. He views the process of manufacturing as vital an artistic tool for creating as a pencil and paper are. Firmly believing that great results rarely occur in a vacuum, Brett thrives on the energy, expertise and contributions of the teams that surrounds him. Feedback and collaboration are essential elements in his creative process.
Brett’s imagination is never not working, but when not physically at work you can usually find him outside… either in the mountains or at the coast. His love for snowboarding, surfing and cycling fuel his creativity and thought process to places he could never reach behind a desk. With a head full of mental notes he’ll venture back into the office to turn ideas into action.
